“My husband wandered in the back of the restaurant looking for a washroom, not realizing they were closed. The owner was very friendly and they chatted for a while. He offered to make something up for him and when he said he was fine, insisted on giving him a free meat pie. We were so impressed by the hospitality and delicious pie that we decided to go back for lunch the next day. Don't let the simple looking menu fool you. The dishes are traditional meals with a twist. Mike came out to explain all the dishes and we tried the lobster roll (with a subtle truffle flavor), haddock burger (so uniquely prepared using phyllo pastry) and salt cod fritters (amazing savory cod doughnuts with delicious sauce). The mains came with great root vegetable fries and pickled potato slices. The focus is on local ingredients and from scratch preparation and it sounds like the menu changes day to day. We're on a cross-Canada road trip from Calgary and this has been our best dining experience by far between the amazing food and the friendly service from everyone at the restaurant.
